MMAFighting- UFC has informed Germaine de Randamie and her management team that she is being removed as the women’s featherweight champion due to her unwillingness to fight the No. 1 ranked contender, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino,” the promotion said in a statement. “Subsequently, top contender Justino will face newly signed Invicta FC featherweight champion Megan Anderson for the UFC women’s featherweight title in the co-main event of UFC 214: Cormier vs. Jones 2, July 29 in Anaheim, California

…and just like that, the worst title reign in UFC history comes to an end. Germaine de Randamie won the inaugural 145lb title at UFC 208 against Holly Holm, in a horrendous main event that featured two separate rounds where de Randamie hit Holm after the bell. She instantly became a super hated figure in the company, then said she wouldn’t fight Cris Cyborg, then when told she had to fight Cris Cyborg, complained about a hand injury. A hand injury that would take her out of action for……EVER.

So Dana White and the UFC were like, “Yo, fuck that” and they set up the best possible matchup the Women’s Featherweight Division has to offer. Really, it’s the fight that should have been made in the first place. Megan Anderson is one of my favorite fighters (for more reasons than one, if you’re reading this Megan, sup) and while she’s a fucking lunatic for agreeing to fight Cyborg, and going as far as calling her out, you have to respect the bravery and cheer for her. Nobody likes Cyborg (and nobody should) but she’s still a fucking beast and should open the pretty heavy favorite in this one. It’s a great addition to the UFC 214 Cormier vs Jones card that has been falling apart a bit recently. In fact…this should probably be the main event, right? Dana said he’d never let Jon Jones main event again after UFC 200 sooooo…
