CBS – Star free agent outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury is in serious talks with the Yankees and the sides appear to be close to reaching a seven-year deal. sources said. The longtime Red Sox is said to be about to choose the Yankees over his longtime Red Sox team and several other teams. “It could happen,” said someone familiar with the talks. It is believed the deal would exceeed Carl Crawford’s $142-million, seven-year deal. One estimate has the deal at about $150 million.Ellsbury has been been pursued by his old Red Sox team, and it is believed the Mariners and Giants were among other teams to show interest.

I got to be honest. I could care less if Ellsbury goes to the Yankees. I mean I do care in the sense that he’s a very good player when healthy, but I don’t feel like he’s stabbing me in the face or anything. Ellsbury has always kind of been aloof. I’ve always viewed him as a mercenary. I never expected any loyalty or hometown discount from him. He is who he is. I just hate the guys who pretend to love it here and then turn around and go to NY. Johnny Damon. Boggs. Clemons. Those are the guys I hate. But Jacoby Ellsbury has always treated baseball like a business. His agent is Scott Boras. If this move happens it won’t surprise me in the least. I won’t hate Jacoby more or less than any other player in pinstripes. He’ll just be another guy.
