Ben Affleck Refused To Wear A Yankees Hat On The Set Of "Gone Girl"

(Source) – During a scene set at a New York airport, Mr. Affleck’s character, Nick Dunne, tries to evade recognition by donning a baseball hat. (Director David) Fincher, Mr. Affleck said, wanted the character to wear a Yankees cap, because he believed that worked best for the movie. “I said, ‘David, I love you, I would do anything for you,’” Mr. Affleck recalled. “‘But I will not wear a Yankees hat. I just can’t. I can’t wear it because it’s going to become a thing, David. I will never hear the end of it. I can’t do it.’ And I couldn’t put it on my head.”

Look, this is cute I guess. But, it’s all so forced and fake that it’s just silly. I mean yeah I hate the Yankees. But if I’m on a movie set and you’re paying me millions of dollars and you tell me to put on a Yankees hat then guess what I’m doing? I’m putting on a goddamn Yankees hat. I get that Ben is Mr. Boston and he’s got his image to protect but c’mon. You’re not some martyr choosing to burn at the stake rather than denounce your religion. Hell I’m as big a Red Sox fan as there is and I’ll say I’m a Yankees fan just to sleep with a girl. We’re at a bar and she’s a Yankee fan? Fuck it, so am I for the next three hours. I wouldn’t date her, but if it gets her to bed then god bless Derek Jeter. So let’s not pretend that Affleck is such a Sox fan that he’d melt like the Wicked Witch of the West if he donned a Yankee hat, it’s just Hollywood PR.
