Orlando SentinelThe Florida Gators’ quiet offseason is over.

UF first-year freshmen receivers Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells were arrested Sunday after being accused of firing BB guns and causing more than $1,000 in property damage at Keys Residential housing on the UF campus.

The two players currently are being held in Alachua County Jail and charged with two felony counts.

Cleveland and Wells, both 18, were charged with criminal mischief for damaging property of more than $1,000 – a third-degree felony – and shooting a missile inside an occupied dwelling – a second-degree felony.

Listen Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells were “officially” in the SEC when they signed with the Gators. They were “officially” in the SEC when they showed up in Gainesville for some workouts and to start going over the playbook and get sized up for their jerseys and meet their teammates. But you and I both know they weren’t OFFICIALLY in the SEC, not until they got arrested and got their mugshots plastered up on the internet. Until a picture of you looking sad and disheveled at some early morning hour pressed against the concrete wall of a police booking station goes viral on Twitter, your ass ain’t in any SEC, at least not the SEC we know.

A UF Police Department report said an officer was sent to Keys Residential at 11:30 p.m. Friday and observed three windows had been shattered and had a small, round hole in each. A review of video surveillance revealed two males shooting at someone at around 6:45 p.m.

The officer eventually would identify the men with their ID cards to be Cleveland and Wells.

Wells would admit his wrongdoing to the officer and turned over the BB gun. The two players then were arrested and booked at 3:38 a.m. Monday.

Cleveland is the top offensive recruit and along with Wells among five receivers in the 2016 class. Both players are Jacksonville natives, but Cleveland moved to Houston and finished his high school career there.

Oh and for those who weren’t around, we learned this last year (with, surprise, another Florida Gator), that “firing a missile” just means shooting some sort of projectile. Such badass terminology. That’s the one good thing about the situation, that at least you can tell your friends you got busted for shooting a missile in a dorm, not playing around with BB guns.
