Olbermann Wants Us To Boycott The NFL Draft Because Jameis Winston Is In It

Apologies for being a few days late on this but I like to keep my weekends Olbermann-free, one of the little rules I set for myself to keep my sanity.

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times re: Olbermann – he could put a weekly 10 minute clip on Youtube making the best, most rational points in the world, and I’d still feel my eyes gloss over after the first 2 from the smug prickness oozing through my computer screen. Except in this case, unlike the NCAA pulling the Final Four out of Indiana, his point absolutely blows.

Seriously, boycott the NFL Draft because Jameis Winston is going to be drafted? For allegations of something that has never been proven or even charged, or for stealing some crab legs from a supermarket?

The choices are about where we as sports fans, where we as human beings, draw the line about domestic violence in this country. Jameis Winston is still likely to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Jameis Winston, with an overall public conduct record that makes Johnny Manziel look like a hall monitor, and fresh from making a public excuse for walking out of a supermarket with three pounds of crab legs that is so completely nonsensical that it sounds like it was dreamt up by the crab legs.

I have grave doubts about Jameis Winston. Unless I have grave doubts about promoting, watching or reporting the NFL Draft, I’m not sure where he is relative to the line, but since the NFL doesn’t care, I can’t run the risk. I will boycott the draft, too.

Are we supposed to boycott every draft and pro sports event where one of the athletes involved has been accused or alleged of something? They’d never air a game again. Grow up Peter Pan Olbermann. There are scummy people in every single professional and college sports team and program in the world, unless you plan on shutting your TV off forever and forfeiting your job I think you can separate watching sports for entertainment from supporting the horrible things that some of the athletes do.
