Kmarko's DraftKings Picks - July 28

KMARKO-HR

Welcome back to the daily DraftKings picks where we try to get super rich playing daily fantasy baseball. As usual I’ll do a brief recap of my lineups from the night before then throw out some picks that I’m brainstorming for tonight, and hopefully get some good feedback/tips/picks from you guys either in the comment section or on Twitter @kmarkobarstool.

Pretty crappy night last night overall – ended up putting 2 lineups in and neither did very well.

Just one of those nights where it was tough to get a feel. Those will happen. Managed to cash like the tournament minimum, but at this stage in the game, it’s big bucks or nothing.

The blog picks: Solid. Got a birthday A-Bomb from A-Rod and a homer from Crawford, got enough from value play Moreland. Only Posey was a dud. Sorry about that one.

Think I got a better feel for tonight so time to double down, here we goooo…

Pitcher Notes:

-Jose Fernandez at home against a beat up Nats squad is your top dog of the night. You never know with those Nationals though, they can explode when you least expect it…and Bryce is Bryce.

-David Price is the top money guy, and should have a big game if he starts – but with the trade deadline looming and him firmly on the block, I’m not risking him getting traded at 7:04 PM.

-Same goes for James Shields. Great matchup with the Mets – but high trade risk.

-Speaking of the Mets I think I might actually like Syndergaard better than Fernandez tonight, for much cheaper.

-As usual, mid tier plays at pitcher are tricky. Iwakuma, Zimmerman and Brett Anderson are all worth a look.

-Wade Miley has been better lately and on paper has a fantastic matchup against the White Sox who can’t hit lefties. But the White Sox are my new Phillies – horrible statistically, but in one of those offensive hot streaks where they ruin lineups every night. I’ve actually been stacking them a lot in some lineups recently – Melky and Eaton are on fire. So up to you if you want to play “on paper or in reality.”

BIG MONEY BAT 3B Josh Donaldson $5.8K

Josh Night! Been staying away from my boy Donaldson lately after I hit a little bit of a cold streak with him, didn’t want to tarnish his good name. But last time I picked him he had a real solid game, and I’m going right back to the well with a…yup you guessed it…matchup with a lefty tonight. The Jays are a top 3 offense to target tonight according to Vegas (#1 in my personal opinion) and I’m guessing Josh will be right in the middle of the scoring onslaught.

That price though…it’s up to you on what you want to do with you’re pitching. With the high priced aces going tonight, could be tough to afford.

OF Andrew McCutchen $4.9K

I don’t think I’ve ever featured Cutch here, which is crazy considering he’s one of the best players in the league. What a time to start – with a big matchup with Mike Pelfry in a game with a big time total. Pirates are a top 5 offense to target tonight and I think they do some heavy damage against the Twins, starting with McCutchen.

1B David Ortiz/Edwin Encarnacion $4.1K

Totally stuck here. On the one hand I’ve got Ortiz as my top ranked 1B of the day…he’s been hot as hell and he’s got another great matchup tonight. But I’ve also got a really bad track record of picking Red Sox players…any time I’m high on one, they put up a dud. Happened with Hanley, Mookie, and Ortiz himself more times than I can count this season. So I’m also looking at Edwin at the exact same price point, for all the reasons I just listed with Donaldson – lefty matchup, big total, lotta runs. Who I go with personally will come down to a last second gut call.

VALUE PLAY 3B/SS Tyler Saladino $2.4K

Here’s a guy you may not know unless you’re a hardcore White Sox fan or a daily DFS dumpster diver. Been putting up real good numbers, hits at the top of the order, and his price just refuses to rise. Of course, when we are talking about this price range, there’s not much safety. But the upside is tremendous, and at 2.4 freaking K? That’s basically a free pick with a shot at double digit points against a mediocre pitcher.

*Note – Not making him a featured play, but just an FYI I will be playing Buster Posey tonight to continue to test my “players having huge games exactly 1 night after I make them a featured play” theory.

That’s it for me, good luck tonight, hit me up @kmarkobarstool to chat about your picks.
