Telegraph- A Bangladeshi-American student has won a place at Stanford University after writing #BlackLivesMatter 100 times in the essay section of his application.

Ziad Ahmed, 18, said he was “stunned” when his innovative approach to the application process, which he described as “unapologetic activism”, paid off.

He proudly tweeted his answer to the question “What matters to you, and why?” and his acceptance letter to the prestigious American university, which boasts 20 applications per place.

However, some social media users were unimpressed, with Ahmed being accused by some of “virtue signalling” and an “attempt to look progressive”.

Others pointed out his impressive CV, which includes being invited to the White House and speaking at Tedx conferences around the world, would probably have been enough to secure him a place.

Let me be the first to say fuck this kid. He’s not black, so this is a trifecta of “virtue signaling” and “an attempt to look progressive” and “hardo.” The kid is basically a Rhodes Scholar already so this essay was completely superfluous. But he wanted to make it seem like he’d mailed it in with a progressive essay. Classic try-hard-to-look like-I’m-not-trying-hard. And either way, his stunt gets attention: if he’s rejected, he posts the essay next to his impressive resume and the world shames the Stanford admissions committee. If he’s accepted, he’s heralded as a civil rights hero.

Safe to say he filled out the rest of Stanford’s comprehensive application with thoughtful, cogent essays next to glowing recommendations from the White House. It’s like busting your balls for 25 miles of a marathon and then walking across the finish line eating a bagel and smoking a blunt. It’s exactly like that. Exactly.

“I didn’t think I would get admitted to Stanford at all, but it’s quite refreshing to see that they view my unapologetic activism as an asset rather than a liability.”

Holy humble brag. This ruined my day.

PS- Here’s my essay:
