Chinese Lady Gets Trucked By 2 Cars And, As Is Custom In China, Nobody Helps Her

Normally, I would leave any horrific Chinese accident stories to my pen pal Donnie. But he’s probably asleep in a Taco Bell dumpster right now (it’s 3AM there). If you haven’t read his blog explaining the epidemic of Chinese traffic flopping, read it here. China may be his territory, but death is my domain, so I’m taking the reins.

Chinese traffic flopping is a really tricky art. It’s just like taking a charge in the NBA. You can’t move, you know you’re going to get crushed, and you just hope you don’t die. The more bones you break, the more money you get. But if you die, you’re dead. Super tricky to get everything right.

This situation is pretty cut-and-dry. This was the moment where it became clear she wanted to be hit:

Notice how she went out there with her head up, but once she’s in position, she tucks her chin and stares at the ground. Smart move: lessens the risk of whiplash/neck injury, plus she doesn’t have to see the car coming to send her (#sendit). It’s like when you’re getting a flu shot and you look away when the needle comes out.

Then, true to Chinese custom, nobody helps her for a minute and 7 seconds. Dozens of cars pass, pedestrians step carefully around her body, and everyone just says “nope.”  Finally, a good samaritan comes along and… runs her over again. Dear God that was tough to watch. Really tough. But if we’re operating under the assumption she did this on purpose, then you just can’t feel too bad. You almost have to think she succeeded? This was what she wanted?

Either way, the driver of the first car is one lucky sonofabitch. Would have been on the hook for medical bills until that second car came along. Talk about passing the buck; kicking the can (in this case, the woman) down the road.

PS- before I went to China, I could never understand how anyone would do this to herself (bet you thought I was going to say himself. But the future is female). But by day 5 of my time there, I understood.
