Band "Hippie Sabotage" Gets Their Set Cut Short, Chokes Out Security Guard

Billboard – A video taken behind the stage at this weekend’s What The Festival in Portland, Ore. captures a fight between event security and the group Hippie Sabotage. While the clip doesn’t make clear who started the scuffle, it shows one member of the duo holding a security man in a choke hold for an extended period of time before others manage to force him to let go.
One observer, Gregorio Sanchez, described the scene in a Facebook comment on the video. You can read his memory of it below.
Hippie sabotage goes on stage telling the audience that “we are playing a hard set and if you dont like it, fuck you, go talk shit on facebook” people get weirded out and then HS continues to say “or stand there and be fucking weirdos” so sound guy comes up and tells him to chill out and to not mishandle the microphone, HS proceeds to talk shit more to the crowd and soundguy on the mic. soundguy mutes mic. HS throws a fit and tosses mics to the crowd. 3 of them. Soundguy tries to go on stage and gets stopped by the TM and shoved back by HS. Event organizer comes to tell them to chill. they say “fuck you”. event organizers ask security to remove them from stage and then this happened….. they get boo’d off stage and i told them “thats some looser shit” they try try to come fight me. security holds him back and he yells. “when you have 200k plays on soundcloud come talk to me” lmao. they get escorted off the festival immediately.
Hippie Sabotage addressed the incident briefly in a statement. “It was an unfortunate event that placed us in an unsafe situation in the middle of our performance,” the duo wrote. “We feel terrible that the fans didn’t get the full set, but we love performing for Portland and will be back.” In tweeted responses to questions about the fight, the duo added “we were just defending ourselves” and “we paid for the microphones.”

So I guess, at the end of the day…mission accomplished? I mean there’s no doubt these two are complete tools. From their temper tantrum, to throwing mics around pretending to be badasses, to double teaming some nerd security guy and choking him out, to the incredibly pathetic “when you have 200k plays on SoundCloud come talk to me” line. But as a career move…tough to go more viral than them right now, and they got people who have never heard their name mentioned before last night streaming their music all morning. That’s what, like, 0.01 cents per click? Money straight into their pocket to help them pay off this upcoming lawsuit. Well played.
