NFL Picks (10/12/05)

Last week I threw the gauntlet down and said if I can’t deliver a winning week in the NFL I’m suspending my NFL picks column. And like a true champion and warrior I posted a 3-1 record. Now it’s time to build on that momentum and get above .500 for the year.

Bengals at Tennessee +3

My mortal lock last week was the Jags over Cincinnati. This game ended up being a push when Carson Palmer fumbled at the 50 yard line with less than a minute to go. I’ll admit that I was impressed with the Bengals. They actually showed me a ton in that game and have to be considered one of the best teams in the league. The Titans on the other hand continue to play the Dr. Jeckle Mr. Hyde routine. They crushed the hapless Texans last week which probably doesn’t mean much. Their two wins are against Houston and Baltimore who have a combined 1 win among them. The Bengals will be motivated to get last week’s loss behind them and will win this thing going away. And if you don’t think they’ll be motivated just remember that Chad Johnson was basically crying after they lost last week.

Mortal Lock – Bengals

Cleveland at Baltimore -6

How can the Ravens be favored by 6 points against everybody. I feel like people just erase from their memory everything that Baltimore has done for the past 10 years except their superbowl victory. Baltimore is arguably the worst team in the league. It would be a crime against humanity not to take the points here.

The Pick – Cleveland

SD at Oakland +2

This promises to be a tough game for the Chargers but there is just too big of a class difference here not to like the Bolts. SD has proven over the past two weeks that they can go toe to toe with the big boys. It’s always difficult to play at the Black Hole at night, but SD just has too much firepower to overcome for the Raiders.
