College Picks
Last Week 1-4
Season Record 4-6
Mortal Lock Record 0-2
Ok, last week was a miserable week for us in college football. We went 1-4 on the week and most of them were blowouts. And I’ve got to admit that I loved the board too. Our Mortal Lock selection fell to 0-2 on the season as LSU got nipped by .5 pt on a questionable pass interference call that was overturned even though it was clearly pass interference. Oh well, nobody said that it was going to be easy. But the good news is that I hate the board this week so maybe that means we’ll have a reverse performance. So here goes nothing…
Hawaii at Boise State -13.5
Okay I bet against Boise State on the Blue Turf a few weeks ago against Oregon State and I learned my lesson. You never bet against the Broncos at home. Especially not when they got the 2nd coming of Jim Brown as their running back. I think this game sets up perfectly for Boise. They are basically playing a mirror image of themselves in that the Rainbow Warriers are another team that is totally different at home and on the road. The good news for Boise is that this game is in on the mainland. In fact, if this game was being played on the Big Island, I think Hawaii would win by 2 TD’s. But it’s not which spells doom for June Jones and Company. This game should be about 193 – 100 meaning the Broncos will cover by about 80.
Mortal Lock – Boise State
ND at Michigan State - +4
The Spartans are another team that proved me wrong last week. I fully expected them to go into Pittsburgh and get crushed. And for the first quarter it looked like I was right as Pittsburgh jumped out to a 10-0 lead. But as I sat on the phone rubbing it in to my buddy who didn’t bet the game, I watched MSU reel off about 35 straight points and cruise to an easy victory. You can count me in the impressed category now. Meanwhile, the Irish are coming off an embarrassing demolition job at the hands of my Alma Mata, the University of Michigan. It’s not going to get any easier for the most overrated team in the nation this week. ND always struggles against MSU and this game should be no different. This game will just serve as another reminder of why ND is afraid to join the Big 10.
The Pick – MSU
Buffalo at Auburn -42.5
I know I shouldn’t touch this game but I have to. Here is the thing. Buffalo beat Temple earlier this year 9-3. Before that game Temple had lost two straight games to Louisville and Minnesota by identical scores of 62-0. And then the Owls went out and gave Buffalo all they could want and more. I’m sure Auburn will start slow in this one because of the hangover from last week’s huge victory, but they will score 7 TD’s just by showing up and that will be enough to cover this thing because Buffalo ain’t crossing midfield in this game. I know this is a ridiculously high spread but the money is still green when you collect.
The pick – Auburn
Arizona State at Cal -7
I think Cal has rebounded from getting smoke showed in their opening game against Tennessee. As a side note only an idiotic AD would schedule your opening game to be on the road in Knoxville. Anyway, Arizona State hasn’t played anybody good yet this season. I don’t think they have a prayer at slowing down Cal as the Bears try to reestablish themselves as a Rose Bowl contender.
The Pick – Cal
