College Football Picks (10/12/05)

Season Record – 22-18
Last Week 4-6
Mortal Lock Record 4-2

Indiana at Iowa -14.5

There are certain games that just sound like blowouts when you say them out loud. Indiana at Iowa is one of those games. Despite the fact that Iowa has been one of the biggest disappointments in the country this year I still expect them to roll at home in this one. Indiana has only played one good team all year in Wisconsin and got hammered. While Indiana isn’t as bad as they have been in years past 14.5 points isn’t a ton to cover. They could be tied at half time and still lose by 21.

The Pick – Iowa

Rutgers at Syracuse -2

What’s going on with the State College of New Jersey? I feel like the bookmaker thinks they are suddenly the 85 Bears or something. Okay maybe not that good but they’ve certainly been getting too much respect lately in the lines. Don’t get me wrong Syracuse sucks, but when is the last time Rutgers went into the Carrier Dome and won? It wouldn’t shock me if the answer was never. As bad as Syracuse is on the road they are still okay at home. It will be a cold day in hell until I bet on Rutgers to win at Syracuse.

The Pick – Orange

Florida at LSU -6

Urban Meyer got a rude introduction to the SEC last week against Alabama. Life isn’t so easy when you’re not playing Air Force and Wyoming every week. And things don’t get any easier for the Gators as they travel to Death Valley to tangle with the Bayou Bengals. I’ve always been a huge Chris Leak fan but I’m beginning to think he’s a real coward. He just never steps up in the big game and he doesn’t strike me as the type of guy who will take last week’s loss personally. I expect LSU to win this game by double digits and make Gator fans reminisce about the days of Ron Zook.

The Pick – LSU

UConn at Cincinnati +8

I LOVE THIS GAME!!! The Bearcats are HORRIBLE!!!!! I’m going to throw in one more exclamation point just to let you know that I mean business. Cincinnati’s only win was a 7-3 decision over Western Carolina in a game that there wasn’t even a line for. Other than that they’ve been blown out by everybody they’ve played which includes Dave Wandstedt’s Pittsburgh team last week. Meanwhile UConn has become a solid program that beats every single team they should and generally beats them easily. Things should be no different in this one as the Huskies roll to a 20 point massacre.

MORTAL LOCK – Uconn

Georgia at Vandy +16

Vanderbilt hung around last week with LSU trailing 12-6 going into the 4th quarter only to watch LSU score 22 unanswered on them and win by a final of 34-6. But for anybody who watched this game you know that the score could have easily been 340-6. Vanderbilt simply got dominated by the Tigers and I see no reason why things will be any different this week. Georgia will certainly have a let down after their huge win last week at Tennessee but they can’t possibly play worse than LSU did last week against the Commodores and LSU still won by 28. Therefore using brilliant logic the pick has to be Georgia.

The Pick – Georgia

USC at ND +11

This game is too big not to discuss. I really don’t have a strong opinion on it, but I figured I’d throw my hat in the ring. USC is the best team in the country. But the fact that they’ve had slow starts the past 3 games is starting to worry me. At first I thought it was a fluke, but I’m not so sure about that anymore. And I do think that ND is the best team that SC will play all year. If the Irish can jump out like ASU and Oregon did I don’t know that the Trojans will be able to catch them because ND’s offense will keep on scoring. Charlie Weiss had two weeks to work on this game plan and as all Patriot fans know he is a much better coach than Pistol Pete Carroll. I’m taking the points and the Irish here.

The Pick - ND
