If Given Unlimited Time And Resources, I Still Don't Think I Could Build A House

We had a hodgepodge crew in yesterday with a lot of people traveling but had some interesting conversation. One nugget was that Jersey Jerry and Francis had breakfast together one day. This was news to me as I had never even seen them talk. But Francis found out that Jerry is very handy, which is true.

Jerry is actually moving to the same town as me in Illinois and he's going to be doing a lot of work on his home. I'm talking plumbing, electrical, flooring, the works. Well we discussed if building your own home was really possible for the common man and I actually brought this up to my wife a few years ago.

Should we just leave our jobs and start building a house ourselves? Save a ton of money. Just buy the land and build ourselves. No juice, no markup. Just the raw supplies and our labor could cover our salaries. The estimated worth of the house could be over what we made in year and we could be really proud to live in something we built with our hands.

I was shot down pretty quickly and after thinking about it further; me - a guy who breaks and/or makes worse almost everything he tries to fix absolutely could not do it. So I'm glad my wife shot this down. That could've put us in a real pickle!
