Wine Walk With Willie Colon

Willie and I first met in 2013 in Florham Park, NJ when we were both with The New York Jets.

I was the annoying reporter asking basic, everyday media questions in the locker room, he was the new player returning to his hometown after spending 6 years in Pittsburgh.

He was also my go-to in the locker room. Regardless of the opponent or the question, reporters knew they could count on him for sound bites without any bitching or complaining.

Naturally when we discovered Willie was doing a turkey drive in the Bronx, we tagged along.

This picture was taken on November 26, 2013. On that day Willie handed out hundreds and hundreds of turkeys for the people of the community he grew up in. I was lucky enough to be there and witness the excitement and gratitude they had for him – they absolutely LOVED Willie – and after the event, we walked around the projects and he told me all about his childhood.

Five and a half years later, I still remember that stroll like it was yesterday.

So we went back to the Bronx and he re-told me his story… this time with a little rosé.
