We Have Our First Trailer For 'Dark Phoenix'

Here is the plot summary we have so far: “In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.”

Well, the good news is the rumor that I blogged about is at least halfway false. Will ‘New Mutants’ make the cut? Only time will tell. A weird note is that they changed the title of the movie, which was originally ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’. I initially thought that might be because the lengthy reshoots were done to lessen the presence of the X-Men while putting more emphasis on Jean Grey. This is, apparently, not the case since this trailer was like a 2:1 split in favor of other X-Men.

2018-09-27 09.51.44I think the X-Men Franchise started out a little shaky, but also 5 of the last 7 have been pretty good in ‘Deadpool 2′, ‘Logan’, ‘Deadpool’, ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, and ‘X-Men: First Class’. ‘The Wolverine’ and ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ were definitely shakier, but I enjoy James McAvoy as Professor X and Michael Fassbender as Magneto. I don’t think the franchise has necessarily taken advantage of their acting abilities yet, and this doesn’t necessarily look like the installment that is going to do that. It will probably fall into the same X-Men trope of Charles being lost, and Magento either starting off evil and turning good or starting good and turning evil. This is also, for me, going to be the true test for if Sophie Turner is a good actress or not. She’s never really impressed me in ‘Game of Thrones’ and hasn’t had a ton of workload in the previous movies.
