The Chargers Signing Roberto Aguayo As Their Kicker Should End Well For Both Parties

This has to be the ultimate test for the phrase “2 negatives make a positive”, right? On one side of the equation you have the Chargers, a franchise whose positional curse at kicker is up there with the Browns curse at QB and the Mets curse at Third Base (RIP in peace David Wright). On the other side of the equation, you have Roberto Aguayo. A one-time stud kicker in college who was so good, the Bucs traded up to draft him in the 2nd round. But Aguayo is now on his 4th NFL team and has a 4-minute YouTube highlight reel with all of his misses titled A-bye-o, which if we are being honest just seems like piling on, after only ONE season as a pro.

Damn, that was actually kind of sad to watch and the lyrics of The Lonesome Kicker have never felt more biting.

I personally love this move though. This is like George Costanza doing the complete opposite of what he should do. The Chargers have had good kickers on their team that fucked up at the worst possible times. Josh Lambo was an 81.3% kicker both years in San Diego. Then he goes to the Football Hotbed known as Sacksonville and poof, he’s hitting field goals at a 95% clip. Yeah this seems like a scenario where both people know that hooking up is a bad idea. But maybe, just maybe things work out.

Orrrrrr everything melts down at the worst possible time and we laugh about it on Twitter. Either way, I’m in. Chargers fans, maybe not as much.
