David DeCastro is Pissed at the Steelers Who Kept Talking About Facing the Patriots

.

PFTThe Steelers overlooked and dismissed the Jaguars all week, which is strange considering Jacksonville beat them 30-9 three months ago. …

“They were ready to go; they were mad; they were angry; they had something to prove, and they did it,’’ Steelers offensive guard David DeCastro said, via Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Yeah, it’s embarrassing. It really is, man. It just blows my mind. They beat us 30-9 [on Oct. 9]. We played like crap, and we want to talk about New England?

“I don’t know what to say about that. It’s just stupid. It’s just not what you do. You don’t need to give a team like that more bulletin board material.”

You have to feel for a guy like David DeCastro. He strikes me as a real pro who just wants everyone to keep their heads down, their eyes on the prize and their mouths shut, instead of popping off about the game after the next game. Maybe he was talking about this?

.

.

Or this?
.

.

And quite possibly this.

.

.

But that’s the team DeCastro finds himself on. Running your mouth in the media instead of taking care of business is The Steelers Way. It’s why Antonio Brown was Facebook Living his coach in the locker room telling his team to stay off social media and calling the Patriots “assholes.” It’s why Le’Veon Bell was talking about holding out for a new  contract in the middle of the playoffs. It’s all part of the same mindset. The same team culture. It starts at the top with Mike Tomlin and works its way down to the bottom of the roster. The thought process that has your head coach blaming a loss in September of 2015 on the helmet communication not working leads to his coordinator not having plays ready following a 3:22 replay review in December of 2017. And eventually to him calling for a 20-yard pass on 4th & inches with a 6-6, 265 lb quarterback and trying an onsides kick with 2:15 left in  a playoff game.

As a team, the Steelers are a young Skywalker. Always looking to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was… what he was doing. Winning takes preparation and focus, something Jedis have but very few Steelers seem to have much interest in. Besides, apparently, David DeCastro. So I hate to break it to him, but as long as the Rooneys keep insisting on bringing back the same coach who puts more emphasis on talking shit and letting his players do likewise than he does on prepping for the game at hand, nothing’s going to change in Pittsburgh. At least now Bell will have time to play as many rounds as he wants. Just not of football.
