I Am Buying Elfrid Payton Stock Now That He'll Actually Be Able To See

Big news today in the world of NBA social media. It’s no secret that Elfrid Payton had some of the worst hair in the league, you hear it mentioned on TV literally any time he plays. Maybe he thought it looked good or something, but in reality it was fairly ridiculous.

Payton never really reached his potential while on the Orlando Magic, and you can’t ignore the fact that maybe he just couldn’t see. He was then traded to the Suns, and while he got off to a good start, he shot just 43/20% in his 19 games in PHX. With his hair getting longer and longer, it’s no surprise his stats suffered. Which brings me to the whole point of this blog. This is Elfrid Payton now

As a Suns fan, you have to love this. Especially if you’re going to be investing in him long term. You’re probably already feeling pretty good after winning the lottery, so this is icing on the cake. It’s always better when your starting point guard can actually see what’s going on, whether it’s for his shooting or his ability to find all these young studs that are going to be flying around for the foreseeable future. If you’re looking to wager on guys who will breakout next season, I don’t see how Payton can be left off your list. Hopefully this new vision will help him slim down his extremely high TO% (18.8%), which for me has always been one main hurdle for him to get past. He is definitely a talented passer, has good size at 6’4, and has never had a season in which he’s averaged fewer than 6.2 assists.

If you don’t think his hair played a role though, you haven’t watched much Elfrid Payton.

Based on his release point, it’s not crazy to think this has been an issue, considering he’s a career 61% shooter from the line. This idea that NBA players are impacted by their hair isn’t all that new, and because the internet rules someone actually went ahead and did a deep dive on this whole issue

I’m no scientist, but this is enough evidence for me to believe we’re about to get a much better Elfrid Payton next season. I also have to mention the timing, as Payton is entering RFA this summer. What better way to convince a team you’re about to break out then taking away a potential negative? Smart move by him if you ask me.
