Will Ferrell And Molly Shannon Just Dropped A Trailer For Their Royal Wedding Special On HBO And It Looks Fantastic
Source - Saturday Night Live vets Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon are again stepping into the shoes of local news anchors Cord Hosenbeck (Ferrell) and Tish Cattigan (Shannon) for The Royal Wedding Live with Cord and Tish!
The special, produced by Funny or Die, comes months after the comedians created Cord (a “health and fitness expert”) and Tish (an L.A. Law alum) for Amazon Prime Video’s coverage of the 2018 Rose Parade. This time, Ferrell and Shannon are heading to HBO.
Though they may be on another network, it doesn’t appear much will change with Cord and Tish. Judging from the promo released Tuesday, the duo will still be up to their usual silliness; Cord even admitted he has “stress odor” because he’s so excited.
I’ve been very “anti” when it comes to Will Ferrell lately but I am so here for this. Mostly because he’s paired with Molly Shannon, who’s easily one of the funniest character comedians of all time. When the two of them are paired together you can’t help but laugh. They could barely get through the trailer without breaking character. Who, by the way, are the most offensively British characters of all time. Pure stereotypes. I’m surprised people aren’t making a big stink about it. The entire premise of the show is them just roasting British people as British people. I looked up some of the reviews for the last time Cord and Tish did a broadcast (the Rose Parade back in January) and apparently it was terrible, which makes me want to see it even more.
“I wish I didn’t have to give this any stars,” one commenter wrote. “The two hosts needed to be placed in a psych ward somewhere. I was so disappointed in the coverage, one because of the hosts and second because they didn’t show all the floats.”
I’m thinking back on all the characters Molly used to play on Saturday Night Live: Sally O’Malley, “Joy-Ologist”Helen Madden, Mary Katherine Gallagher.
They were sooo strange but so funny. She’s going to steal the show. I’m going to a Bachelor party this weekend, so maybe while they’re at the strip club contributing to college funds I’ll hunker down and watch this. I could invite Meghan Markle’s dad over to watch it with me since he’s decided to opt out of the ceremony and remain in Tijuana a la Kenny Powers Senior. I’ll bring the Dos Equis and he can bring the Mexican shake weed. We’ll make a night out of it.
As news coverage surrounding the wedding ramps up, it makes me wonder if the Royals take their wedding seriously or if they just go through the motions to keep the public satisfied. I can’t imagine all that pageantry is enjoyable. By the time it’s all said and done the wedding is like eight hours long. They seem like more of a Vegas wedding couple. Whatever the case, I’m glad Tish and Cord will be providing commentary. It’ll bring a little levity to the situation.
