Happy Selection Sunday, Laxers. Now Buy A Shirt
Well here we are, bitches. Selection Sunday is finally upon us. The 2018 College Lacrosse season got going about 3 months ago and now we’re here. 16 teams will be fighting to play on Memorial Day Weekend at Gillette Stadium. As of right now, the teams who have already guaranteed themselves a spot at the table are
- Johns Hopkins – Big Ten Champs
- Georgetown – Big East Champs
- Albany – America East Champs
- Loyola – Patriot League Champs
- Cornell – Ivy League Champs
- UMass – CAA Champs
- Richmond – SoCon Champs
- Canisius – MAAC Champs
- Robert Morris – NEC Champs
Now only 8 AQ’s will advance to the 16-team bracket so Richmond and Canisius will have a play-in game. That leaves 8 teams to still get an at-large bid to the tournament. You have to imagine that the locks for that right now are
- Maryland
- Notre Dame – ACC Champs
- Duke
- Denver
- Yale
Which means we’ll have 3 spots left for all the bubble teams to fight over. Those are teams like Virginia, Syracuse, Ohio State, Rutgers, Bucknell and Villanova. I honestly don’t care any way which of those teams make the tournament and which teams are left out. You can make a super strong argument for all of them on why they should or shouldn’t make the tournament and in my opinion they’re all the exact same team. Good enough to be competitive but pretenders to their core.
Either way, we’ll find out for sure who gets in tonight at 9 during the Selection Show. After that, we’re going to go live on @thecreasedive on Instagram to break down the bracket. We’ll also record our bracket reaction as a podcast for tomorrow. In the meantime…
