Raptors Hold On Late And Take A 3-2 Lead Into Washington

Washington Wizards v Toronto Raptors - Game Five

Don’t let the final score of 106-93 fool you, this game was close with about 4 minutes left, with the Raptors holding a slim 94-93 lead. The Wizards at one point had a 5 point lead early in the fourth, and just like we’ve seen time and time again, they collapsed in the fourth quarter. When it was all said and done they scored just 18 points in the final frame, which certainly hurts when the other team scores 28.

In a game that was a true battle of the backcourts as both team’s starting guards played well, but as we’ve come to see with the Raptors, it was the TOR bench that ultimately was the difference. Delon Wright with a huge night scoring 18 off the bench on 6-10 shooting, the Bench Mob played a huge role in the 60 points TOR scored over the final 24 minutes. To be honest this was way more important for TOR in my opinion, they had all the pressure. They lose this game and everyone starts to question whether or not things actually are different. Now that they’ve taken care of business it would genuinely shock me if TOR lost the next two games. I can see maybe it coming back for a Game 7, but TOR is so automatic at home, we should be getting the Lebron/TOR series we all really wanted anyway in the second round.

When the Wizards look back on this game they’ll see that turnovers were a huge problem, they finished with 15 on the night and nearly half came from Wall. That led to 14 Raptors points, and if they haven’t learned by now, you can’t be that careless in that type of hostile environment. At the end of the day what beat the Wizards is what usually beat the Wizards, poor bench play and running out of gas in the fourth quarter. Wall played 44 minutes and Beal 36, and for the millionth time we saw what they does to their legs.

Perhaps we’ll see something crazy as this playoffs has been anything but predictable, but I wouldn’t count on it. Huge with for the Raptors and their fans, enjoy it.
