The Comment Section From a 2007 Article About a Rumored Aaron Rodgers/Randy Moss Trade Is Hysterical

Screen Shot 2018-04-25 at 12.49.32 PM is reporting of a rumored trade that would send Oakland Raiders receiver Randy Moss to the Green Bay Packers for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Apparently trade talks between the Raiders and Packers for Moss are back on again. This rumor has the Raiders asking for a first rounder for Moss and the Packers countering with Aaron Rodgers.

So this rumored trade from March 2007 is resurfacing where Brett Favre went to the Packers front office and pleaded for wide receiver help as his Green Bay days were dwindling. Randy Moss wanted out of Oakland and a dream scenario for the wideout seemed to be Green Bay. The Raiders wanted Aaron Rodgers who was just finishing his second year in the NFL and attempted just 31 career passes as he sat behind The Gunslinger.

The two sides discussed the deal, but eventually Green Bay backed out and Randy was traded to New England for a 4th round pick. This trade is maybe one of the bigger “what-ifs” in NFL history. Maybe Favre wins another super bowl in Green Bay, but the future of the team is derailed. Oakland possibly becomes a juggernaut in the AFC, joining the Colts and Patriots as legit contenders year in and year out. Because they trade for Rodgers, Oakland had no need to take JaMarcus Russell first overall and as some pointed out, possibly take Calvin Johnson with the pick instead. Who knows how many Super Bowls Tom Brady gets to from that point on? Who knows how many records Rodgers and Calvin set in the Bay Area? Thankfully, for my sake and Boston fans’ sake, this trade never happened. The Raiders fell into irrelevancy with Jamarcus Russell while Green Bay found its QB of the future and won the Super Bowl with him in 2011.

The best part of this old article are the comments. Read and laugh folks, it’s a treat to find out how stupid some people were back then.

Oh what a world 2007 was. Brady Quinn and JaMarcus Russell seen as superior options to Aaron Rodgers? Andrew Walter seen as a viable QB solution to compete with Rodgers in Oakland. How different the NFL landscape would have been if this trade went through. Shout out to Reddit poster AlexM2816 for digging up this 11 year old article
