Stedman Bailey Trying To Make NFL Comeback Three Years After Getting Shot In The Head

Call me soft or whatever, but this is what one of those feel good stories you just hope works out. Three years ago Stedman Bailey was shot in the head as he was sitting in a car in the Miami area. To add to the story he was in the car with two people who were minors when another car drove up and opened fire, hitting Bailey in the head twice. Bailey was rushed to the hospital in Miami where he was in critical but stable condition.

What’s a bit crazier is Bailey had a plate put in his skull following surgery and he actually believes it will help him on the football field. How exactly? He believes he’ll be less susceptible to brain injuries with the plate there.

Flash forward three years and Bailey is back trying to get make it back into the NFL. He participated in Marshall’s pro day last month and just tweeted out yesterday that some teams are showing interest in him. Bailey was a third round pick for the Rams back in 2013 after he left West Virginia with 210 receptions – the second most in school history. He was a second team All-American at West Virginia and entered the NFL as a guy known as a reliable target who you could slot in as your second or third receiver as a ‘safety blanket’ as sorts for a quarterback.

The chances for him to make the NFL are obviously slim and he even recognized that during a recent interview. But, it’s remarkable that he’s even in a position to try and make a comeback to the NFL. During his time with the Rams he caught 59 passes for 843 yards and two touchdowns. I truly hope he gets to add to those numbers.
