Packers' Trevor Davis Arrested for Joking to TSA He Had a Bomb in His Luggage

TMZ - Green Bay Packers wide receiver Trevor Davis was arrested at LAX on Sunday morning after cops say he joked about smuggling a bomb into the airport …

Law enforcement sources tell us the 24-year-old — a 5th round draft pick out of Cal in 2016 — was at the Hawaiian Airlines ticket counter with a female companion to check into a flight when the attendant asked the usual security questions about their luggage.

Instead of playing it straight — we’re told Davis turned to the other woman and said, “Did you remember to pack the explosives?”

She apparently said, “No” and tried to get him to stop. He then said, “Just kidding” — but it was too late.

We’re told cops were called and Davis was immediately taken into custody for misdemeanor criminal threats.

Cue the sad trombone for Trevor Davis. It’s got to really blow to be a few minutes from boarding a flight to Hawaii only to find yourself handcuffed in a cell facing federal charges instead while your girlfriend sits in the terminal drinking Starbucks wondering if you’ll be out in time to make the next flight. Though I’ve got a limited supply of sympathy as it is and I’m not about to waste much of it on a grown man who’s grown up in a post 9/11 world and still decides to crack wise with TSA. In fact, Davis can’t remember a time when you could blow right through security checkpoints and carry knives, lighters and booze on board with you. How could he not get the etiquette in 2018 is to treat these agents like Gestapo officers for the five minutes or so you have to interact with them and just make it to your gate?

In other words, to not do the one thing everyone who’s flown in the last 17 years knows you can’t do. But no. He had to try to impress his honey with his rapier wit. And now he’ll end up with a criminal record, charged with being a dumbass.

But the real crime here isn’t that he made a threat. We all know he didn’t. The crime is making the lamest, most obvious joke possible. Those TSA gendarmes spend eight hour days processing thousands of passengers. Pawing through thousands of bags. Giving the same instructions every minute and a half over and over again every day of their working lives. They’re just trying to stop the “Did you remember to pack the explosives” gag because they had to hear it 500 times a day before they could start arresting you for it. It’s the TSA equivalent of asking the bank teller if they get to take home free samples of money or a massage therapist if they do happy endings. It’s making a Newman reference to a mailman. Or this:

It’s meeting someone named Michelle and saying “Like Michelle my belle?” They’ve heard it before. Trust me. The difference is TSA gets to throw you in jail for your lack of originality. So be better, Trevor Davis. Either say nothing at all or come up with something original.
