In Case You Missed It, Johnny Football Played In An Actual Football Game Again

While you were debating on whether to root for Patrick Reed at Augusta National or not, #ComebackSZN was quietly making moves over the weekend. Yep, Johnny Manziel returned to competitive football for the first time since 2015.

In his Spring League (a developmental league and scouting event) debut, he went 9 for 15 for 83 yards and a touchdown. And there were NFL teams in attendance.

For what it’s worth, his TD looked a hell of a lot like Johnny Football circa 2012.

It wasn’t all sunshine and roses. Manziel did take 3 sacks. His team lost 11-7. It got a tad sloppy at times, and he wasn’t happy about it.

He told a scrum of reporters that he was disappointed with the mistakes the offense made, but that just being out on the field was a huge step. He had fun and he is letting the process be exactly that. A process.

Look — and I sound like a broken record — I have no idea what’s ahead for Johnny. NFL, CFL, who knows. But every time I sit down to blog about him, it’s clear that he’s making a true effort to get back to the game and his life back on track. The Spring League is just another step in the right direction. Plus, taking live snaps and completing over 50% of his passes can only help the #ComebackSZN narrative.

His team plays again on Thursday night in Austin. I’m hoping for an electric factory of highlights.
