The Pats Fan Who Ruined the Astros Banner Unveiling with a 28-3 Flag is the Hero We Need

I don’t know when I’ve ever been prouder of Patriots fans. Truly. This was one of those displays of indomitable spirit that makes your heart soar. After getting our collective nutsacks put in the great cosmic vice at the end of February. After months of reports of bad blood and rumors of power struggles going on inside the palace walls at One Patriots Place. After losing Super Bowl heroes to free agency. Having to endure all this “end of the dynasty” talk. Some anonymous Masshole, some unsung hero, goes out and inspires us with a remind of all that once was good. And can be again.

It’s heartwarming to know that 28-3 continues to endure. That its spirit lives on through all the disappointment and strife. It proves that we will not go quietly into the night. That we will not vanish without a fight. That we are going to live on. Crashing other cities’ parties. Ruining their ceremonies. Reminding them who has been the standard of success in this decade and continues to be until God, Belchick and Mr. Kraft say otherwise. And while they can barely get the goddamned cover off their banner, the Patriots had to rebuild a major portion of Gillette just to find a place to fit their fifth. And left room for the ones to come.

You see a Barstool flag there. I see a beacon of hope. A rallying cry as everlasting as “All men are created equal,” “In God we trust” or “We’re onto Cincinnati.” So thanks to you, expatriated New Englander living in Houston. You’ve renewed my faith in life.
