ESPN is Replacing Jon Gruden's QB Camp With Russell Wilson Series Called "QB2QB" Because I Guess There Aren't Enough Bad Ideas Out There Already
ESPN will debut SportsCenter Special: QB2QB with Russell Wilson next month featuring the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl champion quarterback mentoring top prospects in advance of the 2018 NFL Draft. Participants will include quarterbacks Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma), Mason Rudolph (Oklahoma State) and J.T. Barrett (Ohio State), and running back Saquon Barkley (Penn State), a projected top-five pick.
QB2QB will premiere with all four 30-minute episodes airing in prime time Tuesday, April 17 on ESPN. (Note: The Barkley episode will be QB2RB.)
Wilson will host one-on-one conversations with each player later this month where he will discuss his own NFL experiences from the past six seasons, including making the transition from college to the NFL, winning and losing Super Bowls, being the face of an NFL franchise, starting over with new coaches, and building relationships with teammates.
QB2QB will also explore mental conditioning with Wilson and his cognitive coach Trevor Moawad. The Founder and President of Moawad Consulting Group, Moawad works with Wilson and other elite and professional athletes in self-awareness and mental skills training.
Ah yes, QB2QB that really rolls off the tongue. Jesus Christ ESPN. I really thought you were making strides with Steve Levy, Kenny Mayne, John Anderson, John Buccigross, Sage Steele, and Hannah Storm becoming the major faces of SportsCenter and doing away with the SC6. Also Alex Rodriguez along with Matt Vasgersian’s addition to the Sunday Night Baseball booth seems like a home run move. I thought we were done with these ridiculous decisions and then you go ahead and replace Jon Gruden with Russell Wilson. I’m not even the biggest Trent Dilfer guy and I would much prefer seeing him “mentor” these incoming QBs like he does with the Elite 11 series which I loved. The absolute LAST thing I need to see is a corny Russell Wilson telling Baker Mayfield you have to be mentally tough to succeed in the NFL. If you get concussed drink his special water. If you throw an interception that loses the Super Bowl, say God told you to do it.
The thing is we want to see guys like Baker, Rudolph, Barkley deal with a guy like Jon Gruden. Gruden’s QB camp was fantastic and I don’t know if we could’ve gone in a more opposite direction than with Russell Wilson. What a disaster. This will be me when I accidentally turn on ESPN while this airs.
A QB Camp with Caleb running the show would be must watch. I think he was put on this planet to do that.
