Our Beloved Jaguars Have Released Allen Hurns: RIPIP To The Allen Brothers

Man, two years ago, I thought that Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson would be a WR duo that stuck around in Jacksonville for a long time. Allen Robinson looked like a legit superstar in the making. He could make plays in the red zone and stretched the field with ease. Robinson could make plays all over the field and Hurns looked like Anquan Bolden Lite. Hurns as a possession WR who often sat on the sticks and could hit you with a great double move when it mattered most.

Robinson and Hurns were the first offensive hope that the Jaguars had since a young Maurice Jones-Drew. Now, just two years later, both are gone. Robinson is headed to Chicago and I think that Green Bay would be a good fit for Hurns. He’s a great route runner who excels in scramble drills.

The Jaguars will now hit the field with Keleen Cole, DeDe Westbrook, Donte Moncrief, and Marquis Lee. Cole exceeded expectations as a rookie and proved to be a reliable wideout who can open up the field when teams are crowding the box to stop the run. DeDe Westbrook is a young gun who was injured most of the year but he looks promising as well. He’s a shifty dude who I would like to see paired with Marquise Lee when the Jaguars go to single set back. The Jaguars also signed Austin Seferien-Jenkins to team up with Marcedes Lewis. With those two big bodies and an enormous offensive line, two shifty and quick WRs could do some damage on underneath crossing routes which happen to be where Blake Bortles does well.

Defenses crash in to stop the run and the Jaguars might actually have a couple of weapons to make them pay this year. If the offense can be average, the Jaguars will be good again, and they’ll do it without the two guys all Jaguars fans thought would be in Jacksonville for a decade. Life comes quickly in the NFL. Good luck to the Allen Brothers. Gone too soon.
