Yankees Send Down Miguel Andujar, Making Brandon Drury The Opening Day Third Baseman

It’s not a move that will shock anyone as the Yanks have committed to experience in the infield over gambling on potential. The first domino to fall was the signing of Neil Walker, then Gleyber Torres was sent down, and now this. Andujar started out red hot this Spring but cooled off a bit and made the decision not too controversial (Drury ended up with only one less hit for what it’s worth). It does stink we’ll likely never get to really see what Andujar could do on this team unless there’s an injury or Drury struggles mightily. It’s not his fault, he’s just always had someone blocking his position ahead of him. I said this back in February and sadly Andujar ended up being that odd man out.

Now he’s likely a trade piece for the deadline assuming he keeps mashing in AAA I guess.

Drury is going to be a rock solid hitter at the bottom of this lineup and wherever he hits, whether it be 7th or 8th, his bat will be much better than what other teams are throwing out there. The biggest question looming now is what happens at 2nd base. Has Tyler Wade done enough to be the Opening Day second baseman? I really think he has, but Boone may opt to go with the veteran Walker instead. I think Wade has at least done enough to solidify a role on this roster. His bat, his speed, his glove at every position in the infield, he’s a perfect swiss army knife for this team.

Oh and as I was writing this Greg Bird hit a ball out of the stadium. This team is going to be ridiculous.
