So I Guess A Man Named "Ninja" Is The Most Famous Person In The World

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing last night. It was madness. There I was, snug as a bug in my bed, ready to pop on an episode of The Office and drift off to la la land where I dream of having a full head of hair and a stable romantic relationship with a pretty blonde girl, and next thing I knew I saw a tweet about Drake streaming on Twitch. And then another. And then I kept seeing the name “Ninja” pop up, and finally I was like “ok, what is happening? Who in the world is Ninja, and why is Twitter popping off at 1am?” And so I started doing some investigating, and what I saw blew my mind.

You see, Ninja is one of the best Esports players in the world. He streams himself playing video games, has 100s of thousands of subscribers on Twitch, and 4 million YouTube subscribers as well. He makes upwards of $500,000 per month from subscriber fees and donations. People just love watching him play games, the same way people subscribe to Center Ice to watch their favorite hockey team or the MLB package to watch baseball.

So I started watching the stream last night- the top Fortnite player in the world with maybe the most famous rapper in the world, and was hooked. I don’t even play games. None. Actually I play this game called “Drop 7″ on my phone. It’s like a combination of Tetris and Sodoku. I’ve been playing it every day for about 8 years now. I would venture to say I’ve played more Drop 7 than anyone else in the world. But besides that, I don’t play any video games, nor do I watch streams. But when Drake and the top player in the world are streaming live to the world, you watch. And they were getting 600,000 unique concurrents. INSANE numbers. 600,000 people concurrents, millions upon millions of unique viewers, after midnight on a Wednesday. Those type of numbers don’t exist for basically anything, but “Ninja” had them on his Twitch last night. He made, based on my rough estimate, anywhere between $50-80k just last night, and hundreds of thousands, if not millions of more dollars in brand equity. Just from playing Fortnite online.

And the sick thing is, people were BEGGING to play with him. Wait, not just “people”. Celebrities. Logic was asking to play.

JuJu Smith-Shuster joined the game, and then afterwards, HE THANKED NINJA for LETTING him play!!!

An NFL player is THANKING A VIDEO GAME PLAYER FOR LETTING HIM PLAY WITH HIM, AND NOT VICE VERSA!!!!!

Travis Scott played too, and is going viral for this celebration:

He’s going viral not for music, but for Fortnite.

What a wild, wild world. If you’re one of those people who try to be condescending like “who would watch someone else play video games?”…well, the answer is a shit ton of people. It’s just like asking “who would watch someone else play baseball when you can play it yourself?” That dude Ninja is the best in the world at the most popular video games, and entertaining on the mic, that’s why people watch. Plus when you watch good players, it makes you better at the game. I watch really good poker player play online, and when they explain why they do what they do, it makes me better at poker.
