Masters Champ Sergio Garcia Names His First-Born Daughter "Azalea"
I love that Sergio Garcia now revolves everything in his life around the fact that he won the Masters. It’s exactly what I would do. I’d legit hire an intern to craft up strips of Augusta-grass-covered carpet that I’d walk around on 24/7. Everywhere I go, I go on Augusta grass. I’d sleep in Augusta grass.
Sergio is doing it right.
Has a human child? Names her after the flower synonymous with Augusta, and the official name of the famed 13th hole: Azalea.
Goes to Wimbledon? Hmmm probably going to need a nice jacket for that.
I know I’m a golf guy so I may be biased but I think winning the Masters is the single coolest thing you can win in sports. It’s just so damn meaningful. You become an honorary member at ANGC. You get invited to play in the tourney every year until you die. You lock up a seat at the annual Champions Dinner. You get a green jacket. The Stanley Cup, Super Bowl, World Series or NBA Championship are awesome and you get to share them with your teammates, but the Masters is all about you. It’s you winning the sporting event entrenched with the more history, tradition, and the general aura of being the most meaningful than any other event in sports.
You win the Masters, you’re set for life. You’re forever a Masters champ, and Sergio Garcia is soaking that up and showcasing it to the millionth degree.
I love every second of it — the more I think about it, I think I’d file paperwork to legally change every single family member, friend, and person I’ve met in my life’s name to Azalea.
Hell I’d change my own name to Azalea. @BarstoolAzalea
PS — 22 days until the Masters.
