Evan Turner Finally Addresses The People Who Think He's Overpaid By Politely Telling Them To "Shut The Fuck Up" And "Kiss His Ass"

Source - Evan Turner knows of a place where you can direct all of your complaints about his contract.

In an interview with NBC Sports Northwest’s Jason Quick that ran on Sunday, the Portland Trail Blazers swingman fired back at those labeling him overpaid.

“First off, let me say one thing: Everything I have done, I have earned,” said Turner. “My contract – that’s my bread, and I earned my bread. So, kiss my a–. Dead serious. Write that. I earned that (expletive) money.

Turner, 29, is currently in Year 2 of a four-year, $70 million contract with the Blazers. He holds averages of 8.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 25.6 minutes per game this season.

Pretty interesting read from NBC Sports. The long and short of it is that Evan Turner wants the hecklers to ‘shut the fuck up.’ Normally, I’d tell him to shut the fuck up but I get where he’s coming from. As great as being a professional athlete would be, having people constantly harp on your money would be the worst. Whenever someone asks me how much I get paid at Barstool it makes me want to blow my brains out. I can’t imagine getting those questions in the public. I get that they’re professional athletes but it still must suck. Especially when people are consistently analyzing your work to see if you’re worth the dollars. Turner is averaging 8 points, 2.8  rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. Whether or not that’s worthy of a four year, seventy-MILLION dollar contract is up for debate (it is.)

I agree with him on almost everything he says in the article. He’s earned every dollar he’s made. While other kids were smoking bongs and drinking beers in the dorms, Evan was busting his ass in the gym. He never had any disciplinary problems or scandals, and according to teammates is a great guy. People forget that most professional athletes essentially give up their childhood in order to make it to the bigs. It’s not sad, it’s just a fact.

Having said that, would I have used more tact in addressing the haters? Absolutely. I wouldn’t have addressed them in the first place. All it does is show that you care. Ratchets them up. Adds fuel to the fire.

“He doesn’t care whether he gets the credit. And he doesn’t care if people think he is worth $70 million.”

Yes you do. That’s why you’re giving the interview, babe. He’s going to be in for a rude awakening when they play the Cavs on Thursday and everyone in the stadium is chanting “he’s not worth it.” Must be a nice problem to have.
