To thrive at defensive end, the junior wants to get get his weight up to 270 pounds by the end of spring camp. His plan to get there is simple.

Oh, no big deal, right? Just 10 pounds. Tell me my diet doesn’t matter for a week and I’ll put on 10 pounds like that.

“Eat 7,000 calories a day and eat until I feel like I’m going to throw up, that’s my weight gain program,” Murphy said.

Oh, okay. Turns out eating 7,000 calories a day because you have to at 6-foot-7, 260 pounds, not because you are hammered and went to McDonald’s twice is a bit different.

I highly suggest eating 7,000 calories once in your life for two to three straight days. Sure, you may be able to do it by accident, but when you consciously do it for 48+ hours you’ll realize how awful an experience it is. Also, I’m talking about eating 7,000 calories of solid food, not liquid. Then, on top of that, you have to go to the gym at some point in the day for an hour plus of an intense workout. It ain’t easy. To make matters worse, if you want to be eating healthy food on top of that, things turned into an awful experience that most humans have ever experienced. 7,000 calories a day coming from chicken, rice, steak, eggs, milk, yogurt, etc. is a miserable existence.
