Dallas Keuchel When Asked About An Astros World Series Hangover: "We're Not The Cubs"
OH SHIT! Season ain’t even start yet and I already know what World Series matchup I’m rooting for. Give me Jon Lester vs. Justin Verlander. Give me Kyle Hendricks vs. Dallas Keuchel. Give me Yu Darvish vs. Gerrit Cole. Give me Jose Quintana vs. Lance McCullers. Give me Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Kyle Schwarber, Willson Contreras, and Javy Baez on the same field as Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve, George Springer, Alex Bregman, and Marwin Gonzalez. Give me all of those match-ups and all of those players going toe-to-toe for the richest prize in the game. Mix in a little bulletin board material, and what have we got over here?
If you’re not familiar with what Keuchel is talking about, the Cubs — you might’ve heard this part — won the World Series in 2016, and then followed that up with a very, very slow start in 2017. Chicago went into the All Star break on July 9 with a record of 43-45, two games under .500, and five and a half games back of first place. Of course, they went on a tear right out of the gate in the second half, winning 14 of 17, reclaiming first place and never looked back. But it was tough to watch what was happening in Wrigleyville in the first half of last year, which is something that teams who have won the World Series have often fallen victim to in the following season.
If I were an Astros fan, I don’t know how I’d feel about Keuchel’s comments to be honest, because he literally has no idea if the Astros are going to have a World Series hangover or not. Yeah, they’re a good team, like he said, but the Cubs were a good team, too, and it happened to them. It’s just a thing that happens. But as an unbiased third party baseball fan here, I love it. Talk that shit, you hipster-bearded, Cy Young award-winning, World Series champ! I love a good storyline, and if these two teams meet in the World Series, that would be one hell of a fuckin’ battle.
