The Kid Who Blacked Out And Took A $1600 Uber Ride From WVU To New Jersey Has A Happy Ending

If you recall, there was a kid last week who blacked out at WVU, burned a few couches, and then called an Uber and asked it to take him “home”. Well, as it turns out, the Uber driver, either acting maliciously or not, took it literally and took the kid HOME…to his actual home, in New Jersey. After trying to battle it out with Uber, the kid conceded and agreed to pay the $1,635.93.
Well, good news if you were on the kid’s side. If you believe everyone makes mistakes, or that the Uber driver took advantage of him, or that you know this could one day happen to you, there’s a happy ending:
FOX - A New Jersey man who got drunk in West Virginia and mistakenly ordered a $1,635 Uber ride to his home state will be reimbursed by a food delivery company.
Jamie Giovinazzo, founder of Eat Clean Bro in Freehold, New Jersey, says his company will pay the fare to thank Kenny Bachman for choosing not to drive while drunk. Giovinazzo says Bachman’s decision helped keep the roadway safe for other motorists.
Shout out Eat Clean Bro! Obviously it’s just a PR move for them, but probably a pretty good one. Pay the kid $1600, get out your anti-drunk driving message, make the news, and watch the Eat Clean Bro orders roll in.
And you know what, I don’t hate it. Sure it’s classic pandering, and sure you should have personal responsibility, but this guy was given a second chance on something he did while blacked out, and that’s something everyone would like to get at some point. It’s like having extra lives in Super Mario, but in real life. May we all get a guardian angel like Eat Clean Bro at least once in our lives.
