NFL Team Asks Prospect If He "Likes Men", Follows Up By Asking If His Mom Is A Hooker
Source - Former LSU running back Derrius Guice said in an interview Wednesday that one NFL team asked about his sexuality and another inquired if his mother was a prostitute at the NFL Scouting Combine that concluded earlier this week.
‘’It was pretty crazy,” Guice said in an interview on the SiriusXM NFL show Late Hits. “Some people are really trying to get in your head and test your reaction. … I go in one room, and a team will ask me do I like men, just to see my reaction. I go in another room, they’ll try to bring up one of my family members or something and tell me, ‘Hey, I heard your mom sells herself. How do you feel about that?’ “
Guice said he was told “to come in prepared” for the combine and everything that comes with it.
“It went exactly how everyone told me it would be,” Guice said. “It’s exhausting. … It was a great experience. You’re being watched and tested the whole time.”
NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said in an email to USA TODAY Sports Thursday that the league is “looking into the matter.”
Shout out to our resident gay blogger Jerry Thornton for never missing an opportunity to comment on an LGBT story. You’d think he’d leave them to the actual gay blogger but apparently not. Gotta get those clicks! Anyways, this story has been picking up steam since it popped up on my newsfeed last night so I figured I’d share some thoughts. Obviously, it’s wildly out of touch for an organization to ask about someone’s sexuality in 2018. NFL teams are known to ask strange questions as a way of testing prospects and that’s fine, but this probably shouldn’t be one of them. Mainly because it makes them look like a bunch of dumb asses. Not to mention the negative message it sends to kids. Whoever asked that question should sign Derrius based solely on the fact that he didn’t rat them out.
Whenever I hear a story like this my default reaction is to make an excuse for whoever’s being accused. I’ll says things like, ‘they didn’t mean it’ and ‘it’s all about intent’ which ninety-nine percent of the time is true, but I’m starting to get sick of it. Stuff like this shouldn’t be in the news because it shouldn’t happen. No, I don’t think the team should be fined or lose a draft pick. Instead they should be outed and made fun of for being stupid.
Not only that, they should be called out for burying the lead. A reporter asked a guy if his mom was a HOOKER. Remember when Smitty said Willie’s mom should’ve worn a sign that said ‘I have lupus’ so people wouldn’t throw batteries at her? Willie almost murdered him. If Smitty had asked if she was a prostitute he actually would have.
The NFL released a statement saying they’re “looking into the matter” but we all know it’s bullshit. If they don’t look into domestic abuse, they’re not going to look into someone being called a name. Besides, the same thing happened a two years ago with Eli Apple and nothing happened.
“A question such as that is completely inappropriate and wholly contrary to league workplace policies. The league annually reminds clubs of these workplace policies that prohibit personnel from seeking information concerning a player’s sexual orientation.” – NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy
No they don’t, Brian.
The only thing that would’ve made this better is if Derrius had answered yes just to fuck with them. See how they react. Maybe throw them a wink and kissey face. The funniest part is that one of the guys at that combine is definitely gay and definitely knows which team asked that. He probably got asked the same thing. Hopefully whoever it is grows a set of balls and calls them out so I don’t have to write this blog again next year. Happy #InternationalWomansDay.
