Wright State Wins a Wild Horizon League Tournament to Punch NCAA Ticket
Well as I said the Horizon League Tournament has been drunk and tends to be that way this time of the year. We saw Northern Kentucky and Oakland lose to at the time 10-win Cleveland State. Tonight, the Vikings took and early lead but ultimately, Wright State took control of the game and won 74-57.
So who is Wright State? The school out of Dayton is led by Grant Benzinger, who dropped 19 points tonight. Benzinger scored about 14 a game while Loudon Love averages just about a double-double with 13 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Wright State is a defensive team though. It ranks 52nd in AdjD per KenPom and really likes to turn teams over. They’ll look to blitz teams but are vulnerable to give up shots behind the arc.
The Raiders actually got off to a rough start this year dropping the first three games of the year including to two tournament teams in Murray State and Loyola Chicago. However, they were able to sweep Northern Kentucky en route to the No. 2 seed in the Horizon League Tournament.
8 teams in, 60 to go.
