Bruins Lose Chucky Mac For At Least 4 Weeks

Goddamnit. The Bruins suffered another major blow to their line-up when they lost Charlie McAvoy during Saturday’s game vs. the Canadiens. The team announced this AM that the young, stud D-man will be out for at least four weeks due to a strain of his left MCL and will be re-evaluated then.

Initially it looked like Brendan Gallagher caught him with a slash but this replay showed otherwise…

This hit just prior to the above clip is worth a look as well…

Regardless, the Bs will be without arguably their top defenseman for a month. Fortunately, they’re well-stocked in that area. As I noted in Friday’s blog, “because these are defensemen and this is the NHL, it’s only a matter of time before somebody gets dinged up and one or both of these guys [McQuaid and Grzelcyk] are back in the line-up”. I just didn’t expect an injury to a key player 32 hours later. Alas.

While it’s a huge loss, the Bruins will be fine because as the team has showed all year, it is about more than one guy. And considering they’re essentially locked into a top two seed in the Atlantic, there’s no need to rush him back. Just get him back to 100% or as close as he can and have him ready to go for the playoffs.

Cup or bust.
