I'm Moving This Caracal To The Top Of My Draft Board

It’s everyone’s favorite time of the year: DRAFT SZN. More importantly, we’re at the combine stage of draft season, where folks like to confirm what they already thought by backing up their scouting with these combine numbers while simultaneously writing off the combine if a player they don’t already like shows out. Truly a fun time had by all.

But for us real scouts, the ones who know how to absorb all the information in front of us and weigh every factor individually in order to make our final decision once the Draft rolls around, this weekend is just another piece of the puzzle. But even the most senior of scouts fall in love with a prospect that came seemingly out of nowhere this weekend, and that’s exactly what happened to me. This caracal is the top prospect in the Draft and I don’t think it’s particularly close.

Look at this vertical.

Not to mention he snagged that bird out of the sky one handed full extension like Odell Beckham. We’re talking about one of the clear cut athletic marvels in any draft class this past decade.

Now, I’ll be the first to admit, there are plenty of red flags and concerns. For starters: he has no tape. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, he appears to be just a large, feral cat, which according to my records has never participated in the National Football League. Too many GMs are afraid of the risk that comes with being the first, which could certainly hurt his stock. And you have to wonder about how he’d mesh in with a team. Is it dangerous for the other 52 men in that locker room to be around a wild caracal at all hours of the day? It remains to be seen. The rest of the scouting world is 50/50 on this rather contentious point. But some team out there is going to take a chance on his potential and if he pans out, everyone that passed on him is going to feel incredibly foolish. Plus, I’m of the camp that believes you build your team around someone this talented, not try and plug him into an already existing offense. If I’m the Browns at 4, I look to pair this guy with Josh Gordon and dominate the AFC North for the next decade.
