Patrice Bergeron Out At Least Two Weeks With Fractured Foot
The Bruins are going to be without their best player for at least two weeks after it was discovered that Patrice Bergeron has a small fracture in his right foot. He took a shot off the foot Saturday in Toronto and post-game X-rays were negative. He played in pain Sunday in Buffalo and a CT scan on Monday revealed the fracture.
This sucks, no two ways about it. Never want to lose your best F just before the stretch drive, especially when he’s having an MVP-caliber season. But one of the hallmarks of the Bruins team this year has been resiliency so I expect more of the same—guys stepping up in Bergeron’s absence.
Per the Bruins Twitter, Riley Nash, who is having a great season, will slide in Bergeron’s spot tonight vs. Carolina. Tommy Wingels, who was picked up Monday from Chicago for a conditional 5th rounder in 2019, will join David Backes and Danton Heinen on the third line. Brian Gionta will be a scratch.
