Kyrie Irving's Latest Interview Had Some Good Nuggets
Much like I did with the Anthony Davis interview, I found Kyrie Irving’s sit-down with Rachel Nichols rather interesting
Now most of the time when you hear Kyrie talk, it’s like 85% gibberish and 15% bullshit. The guy talks as if he’s trying to get to a certain word count on a college paper. I don’t think I’ve heard Kyrie give an easy, logical answer to any question since he became a Celtic. Usually at the end of his rants I completely forget what the question even was. When Rachel asked him at the start how he thought everything was going 6 months in, this is what I expected his answer to be
“Well Rachel when you put yourself in a new situation not just physically but mentally the power to understand that change and use that as motivation to put yourself in a higher position for not just you but for your teammates is one of the best ways to use that new and exciting energy”
Or some other high on mushrooms type shit. But we didn’t get any of that, instead we got some answers that in my opinion are worth storing in the back of your brain. The first thing we hear is that he considers the position he’s in currently well worth the risk of leaving. Obviously I expected him to say something along those lines, but considering there will always be a small bit of nervousness until we see him sign that extension, he does seem genuinely happy with the biggest decision of his career. That’s encouraging.
But I really care about the last question. How confident is he that he will be wearing a Celtics jersey holding the Larry O’Brien trophy? He answers that he thinks about it everyday. Now she could have said, “how confident are you that you will one day raise the Larry O’Brien trophy?” and he could have given the same answer but left it broad enough where that could have meant with Boston or someone else. The fact that he knew they were asking about doing it in Boston and still gave the same answer was just what I needed to hear. I know, of course he is going to give that answer but with this whole situation I need to hear him say it.
There was also talk about his new movie which to be honest I’ve been trying to avoid blogging about because honestly this is a ridiculous idea
Loved Uncle Drew as a commercial, not sure it makes the best movie and could very well end up being our own version of this
The Celtics will need an even better version of Kyrie in the second half/playoffs if he wants to make that dream a reality, but watching him there at the end, I feel like he’s ready for the challenge.
