Grading the Newest Sex Scandal Teacher

OhioA former substitute teacher at an Ohio school district is accused of having inappropriate sexual relationships with two students, including a 14-year-old boy.

Darci L. Lake, 23, pleaded not guilty to nine counts of sexual battery on Wednesday. She faces a maximum of five years in prison for each count.

According to court documents, Lake was a substitute teacher with Maysville Local Schools near Zanesville when she began sexual relationships with two students. …

Lake had been hired through Renhill Group, a company that staffs districts with substitute teachers throughout the state. She said Lake was no longer contracted with Maysville.

One of the toughest spots you can be put in is that first Sex Scandal Teacher post of the New Year. That one right after the All Star team is announced is a thankless job. Even if you’re a superstar, you’re following a lineup of superstars and you’re going to suffer by comparison. But the GtNSST business doesn’t take weeks off. They never stop coming and I have a duty to put somebody up there. And Darci Lake gets the call.

Here’s the thing. I think she’s suited to it. Solid. Not flashy. Capable of handling this tough spot. In that way that when you’ve got an emotional game like a major bowl, a playoff or the first night of the season when you’ve just hung a championship banner and emotions are running high, you want to just run a few basic plays to get your adrenaline in check and get back normal. You want an average-to-slightly above average SST to tamp down the emotion and kick off another fantastic year.

The Grades:
Looks: Like I said, solid. Slightly above average. You’re not about to call her one of the greats but you wouldn’t turn her down by any stretch. And if you’re a 14-year-old Ohio high school kid, you’d think she was the greatest gateway Sex Scandal Teacher you could hope for.
Grade: B-

Moral Compass/Bad Judgment: Two kids. Nine counts. While only being a sub. And all by the age of 23? To pull that off you have got to have a lot of drive, determination and want-to. If she was only a little better at not getting caught, who knows what kind of career she might have had.
Grade: A-

Intangibles: Now that I think about it, a agency that hires substitutes would be the perfect job opportunity for an aspiring SST. You’d get exposed to a hundred times the number of prospective partners. Plus there’s none of the messy and time consuming educational requirements. All you need to babysit a classroom and make sub pay is a pulse and the ability to turn on a movie. Getting fired from a company like the Rehill Group is like being let go from a temp agency. You’ve got nothing to lose and all the teenaged D in the Maysville Local School district to gain.
Grade: B+

Overall: B Just enough to get 2018 off to a decent start.
