USC's Chimezie Metu Writes A Letter Of Apology To A Wazzu Player For Punching Him In The Dick During A Jump Shot
SI - USC forward Chimezie Metu didn’t get to spend too much time in Sunday’s game against Washington State.
The junior who was averaging 18.6 points and 8.1 rebounds in 31.8 minutes going into Sunday got only seven points and one rebound because he was ejected from the game in the first half.
After getting a dunk of his own, Metu delivered a low-blow to Washington State’s Carter Skaggs as he attempted a three-pointer, and Metu was give a Flagrant 2.
For Metu, not only did the punch take him out of the game, but it could also have impact on his draft stock moving forward. Metu is listed as No. 21 on the latest NBA draft big board by Sports Illustrated’s Jeremy Woo.
USC – USC junior forward Chimezie Metu has been ordered by Trojan head coach Andy Enfield to sit out the first half of USC’s next game, surrender his captaincy and issue a letter of apology as a result of Metu’s ejection from Sunday’s (Dec. 31) game against Washington State.
In his letter sent to Skaggs, Metu apologized to the player, WSU coach Ernie Kent and the Cougar basketball family, as well as to his USC teammates and fans and his family. He acknowledged his inappropriate action, saying “a lack of judgment for a split second led to an action that I immediately regretted and had no business committing in the first place. I understand there is no place in the game of basketball for such an unsportsmanlike action.”
He also wrote that he is “prepared to take any necessary steps to ensure that I am not involved in such an incident moving forward.”
Very costly dick punch from Chimezie Metu, on all accounts. From a punishment standpoint, there’s the ejection. There’s the suspension. There’s the loss of captaincy. There’s the chatter about potential effects it will have on his NBA Draft status (he’s #21 on the Big Board right now).
Then aside from all that, there’s the unwritten side. The breach of bro code. The ball whack on a jump shot. Totally uncalled for. You can tap the bottom of their elbow to send the ball flying too high. You can sneak in a little gut tap maybe. But you never ever go for the nuts on a defenseless shooter. That’s the kind of stuff that gets your ass whooped on the playgrounds. This is D1 basketball not the Pardon My Take recording studio. You don’t punch cocks out here.
Not to mention the utter humiliation of having to sit down and write a hand written apology letter apologizing for dick punching.
Chimezie Metu – got a lot of reputation restoring work to do for the rest of the season.
