***Jordie’s Note: Yes, I’m fully aware that the audio quality sucks. The production quality of Quick Shifts in general isn’t great but the audio quality especially. I’m gonna get my hands on a microphone at some point, I just never remember to go get one until the morning when I’m recording. But yes, I’m aware***

The first ever NHL games were played 100 years ago yesterday. On December 19th, 1917, the Montreal Canadiens beat the Ottawa Senators 7-4 and the Montreal Wanderers beat the Toronto Arenas 10-9.

Yesterday, the Montreal Canadiens beat the Vancouver Canucks 7-5 so that was actually a pretty similar game 100 years to the day. The Toronto Maple Leafs, however, decided to beat the shit out of the Carolina Hurricanes and whooped that ass 8-1. Not good for all those people who continuously pick Carolina as their team in the beginning of the season who is finally going to “turn it around”.

By the way–The Vegas buzzer beater from last night is getting its own blog.

Scores From Around The League, Tuesday 12/19:

  • Hurricanes 1 @ Maple Leafs 8 — TOR -130
  • Red Wings 6 @ Islanders 3 — DET +145
  • Ducks 1 @ Rangers 4 — NYR -180
  • Wild 6 @ Senators 4 — MIN +110
  • Bruins 3 @ Sabres 0 — BOS -130
  • Jets 6 @ Predators 4 — WIN +135
  • Capitals 4 @ Stars 3 (OT) — WAS +105
  • Panthers 3 @ Coyotes 2 — FLA -115
  • Canadiens 7 @ Canucks 5 — MTL -145
  • Lightning 3 @ Golden Knights 4 — VGK +115

Only one game last night with 3 or fewer goals. Two games with 9 goals, two games with 10 goals and one game with 12. Tough day to be a goalie.
