Should We Be At Least A Little Concerned About Dave Hakstol's Complete Lack Of Emotion?

For the first time in the 2017-18 season, Dave Hakstol finally had a successful coach’s challenge. The Los Angeles Kings took a 3-1 lead in last night’s game just about 5 minutes into the 3rd period. A couple of minutes after that, it looked like they bumped the lead up to 4-1 with Drew Doughty and Dustin Brown teaming up to get another shot past Elliott. That’s when Dave Hakstol said, “woah, woah, woah. No fuckin’ chance, bud” and challenged the call for goaltender interference. I don’t have the actual numbers here in front of me but I’m willing to bet this was at least the 5th or 6th call that Hakstol has challenged this year. Up until last night, he was O-fer. But like they always say, the 6th time is the charm and after repeatedly fucking up coach’s challenges, Dave Hakstol finally got one right. And boy oh boy was he ecstatic about it. Just look at that face!

Pure jubilation!

Now I get that it’s difficult to be excited in this particular situation. Even with the goal getting called off, you’re still down 3-1 and there’s no chance in hell you’re scoring 4 goals on Jonathan Quick. But this isn’t a one-time thing. In fact, it’s an every time thing. This is Dave Hakstol’s facial expression if the team is winning, if they’re losing, if they just scored a goal, if they just got scored on. From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, Dave Hakstol’s facial expression is always filled with pure apathy.

So now we just have to ask the question. At what point are we legitimately concerned about Dave Hakstol’s lack of feelings? Lack of emotion? Lack of pretty much any semblance of humanity outside of physical features? It’s a serial killer-esque quality. But even serial killers may take offense to that comparison. They at least have emotion. They just lack empathy. Am I saying that Dave Hakstol is worse than a serial killer? No I am not. I’m just saying that serial killers appear to at least be a little more human than him, is all.

P.S. – Yes. Obviously this is a cop out way to write about the Flyers 6-game win streak coming to an end instead of talking about the actual game itself. Sue me.
