1. St. Cloud State
2. Notre Dame
6. North Dakota
7. Ohio State
9. Penn State
10. Minnesota State
Some big changes to the top-10 this week, most importantly we have a new team at #1, the SCSU Huskies. It was extremely difficult to not keep Denver at #1 this week, I still do believe they are the best team in college hockey. But after two ties with Colorado College this weekend, Denver drops to #3. The Huskies are your new #1 team, returning after over a month hiatus after a strong weekend series against the #6 Sioux, going 1-0-1. Saint Cloud State only has two loses on the season, both to Denver, and their schedule doesn’t lighten up with upcoming series against Minnesota, UMD, and Western Michigan.
Notre Dame remains the #2 seed. 13 straight wins for the Fighting Irish, after going into Wisconsin this past weekend and sweeping the Badgers. Notre Dame made a strong case for the #1 spot, at 16-3-1 on the season it was very tough to keep them at #2, but the loses to Sacred Heart and Nebraska-Omaha made the decision a little easier.
Two wins over St. Lawrence this weekend makes it 11 straight for the #4 Clarkson Golden Knights. The ECAC conference leader didn’t lose the entire month of November and have yet to lose in December. Casey Jones has his boys playing real good hockey right now, and if it can continue they are definitely a team to watch out for in the tournament.
Penn State comes in at #9 after being unranked for the last few week. The Nittany Lions kind of got off to a slow start to start the season, but haven’t lost in their last 8 games, including a big 1-0-1 weekend with #7 Ohio State to start the month of December. I think its finally time we can dub Penn State a hockey school after their football team completely shit the bed at the end of the season. PSU plays each game at a 104% capacity according to USCHO.com and it took all of two minutes and twelve seconds for the Nittany Lions to sell out season tickets for the hockey team. And when they do a white-out? No environment in college puck like it.
Minnesota State makes their return to the top-10 at #10 this week. At 11-5-0 its tough to not include the Mavericks in the top-10, but after recent loses to Bowling Green and Northern Michigan I hesitated to put them in. But after putting up 12 goals and only allowing 1 in a weekend series with Lake Superior, the Mavericks got the call this week.
SAVE OF THE WEEKEND:
Save of the week goes to Army tendy Jared Dempsey. The West Point goalie make the diving save Saturday night en route to a 4-3 win over UNH. #BeatNavy
Celly of the week:
Brown’s Tim Lappin had an unbelievable goal against UVM Saturday night. Was the celly better? I mean, tough to say, but it’s pretty damn close.
Goal of the week:
UMaine’s Eduards Tralmaks got put on the hands team Friday night with this absolutely filthy display of stickhandling against QU. Then the finish? A+.
