Tre'Davious White's Overreaction to Gronk's Hit is a Pathetic Joke

ESPNAfter clearing the concussion protocol Thursday, Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White called the NFL’s one-game suspension of Rob Gronkowski “a joke” and referred to the New England Patriots tight end as a “dirty player” for his illegal hit in Sunday’s game. …

“I’m glad I had my mouthpiece in,” White said. “I probably could’ve bit my tongue off. I bit my lip pretty bad. Terrible headache. It is what it is. He did what he wanted to do. … He is what he did. Dirty shot, so what does that make him? Dirty player. Simple.” …

When asked Thursday if Gronkowski’s apology means anything to him, White responded, “No.”

“His intentions were to hurt me,” White said. “It is what it is. But that’s [what happens] when you ball and they don’t like that.” …

White said Thursday he had no comment about a text he sent to ESPN NFL analyst Ryan Clark, which Clark shared on ESPN Radio this week. According to Clark, White texted about Gronkowski, “the whole hood want ‘em.”

Buffalo News“My life is way more important than football,” he said. “I’ve got a son to raise. I’m down there, my back’s turned, head to the ground and somebody sneakin’ me. I mean, he could have broke my neck, could have paralyzed me.

“Nobody thinks about that. They think about football. At the end of the day, if football ended today or tomorrow, I’ll be fine. As long as I’m able to walk and raise my son and do the things that I want to do.”

I said at the time of Gronk’s hit on White that he shouldn’t have done it. That he lost his shit when White got away with about a three holds, a pass interference and a push-off on the interception and he should’ve used his words. Even Belichick told Sean McDermott “It was bullshit” like the Football Guy he is. Fine. We’re in agreement. Gronk said he was wrong, apologized, got suspended, lost his perfunctory appeal and will sit out against Miami Monday night. Justice is served. We have a teachable moment. There’s learning and hugging, roll the credits.

But what the hell, Tre’Davious? I remember liking this kid in the draft but at no time in any of his scouting reports what a drama queen he is. Gronk drilled a shoulder pad into White. It happens literally every time there’s a pile of bodies on a football field. I guess I missed the part were he clubbed him with a bat wrapped in barbed wire or fired an RPG at him. My severed tongue could’ve been lying right there on the turf! He could’ve broken my neck! I might’ve never walked again! He almost ended my life! Orphaned my son! He’ll grind your bones for his breakfast!” Make a soup from your freshly peeled skin! Shave your livers! Squeeze the jelly from your eyes! You’ll shoot your eye out!!!

Here’s a crazy thought. What if the NFL just happened to get the Gronk punishment right? Notwithstanding that every race baiter on the planet is making it out like he committed a hate crime and saying that he’s only serving half the suspension of Aqib Talib and Michael Crabtree not because he’s a first-timer and they’re repeat offenders, but because of  skin color. And putting aside Tre’Davious White making himself out to be a wounded warrior (who won’t miss a game with his debilitating, crippling injuries). What do you say instead we do an apples-to-apples comparison? The most recent, almost identical, penalty, Mike Evans hit on Marshon Lattimore:

Evans got one game. And the world didn’t get outraged. Lattimore didn’t make himself the hero of his own story and demand a parade. Evans got punished and we moved on. And not that it should matter when the league hands out punishments, but Gronkowski is paying an even higher price.  He signed an extension that is almost totally based on playing time incentives that he probably can’t reach now. So that was one very expensive fit of rage.

For once the NFL got one right, in spite of Tre’Davious White’s near death experience. Now the question is, what to they plan to do about the fact that White is texting guys in the press basically threatening to retaliate? I’m guessing what the same thing the refs did when he mauled Gronk for that interception. Nothing.
