Let's Take A Look Back At One Of The Best Supporting Characters Of All Time - Part 2

MTP

This is an extension of a blog that I wrote almost two years ago:

There’s really no reason why it’s taken me so long to write another one of these. Maybe it’s because Lawrence is so much to live up to? I mean he really is just a perfect character in one of the best comedy movies of the last 20 years.

But, anyway…Part 2 is a character from a movie that I love maybe just as much: Meet The Parents

There’s a few people that could’ve got the nod from this one. I’ll start with Owen Wilson’s character “Kevin” who is Ben Stiller’s girlfriends ex-boyfriend, as well as the best man in her sister’s wedding. When I wrote that out it sounds pretty damn confusing, but if you’ve watched the movie you get the gist of it.

Wilson’s character starts off hot when he gets into a bougie ass conversation about IPO’s with Greg within 5 minutes of meeting each other:

You gotta strike while the irons hot! So much funny shit in just that two minute clip.

Then it leads into this conversation they have in Kevin’s garage:

He just put a fresh coat of lacquer on it so please bare with him on the fumes. So many subtle remarks to Greg about him being Jewish. Again, just a ton of good shit. An overall incredible character played by Owen Wilson.

He, however does not get the nod into the supporting character Hall of Fame though. The person who I gotta go with is Dr. Larry Banks who is played by Jason Rebhorn.

James Rebhorn Meet the Parents

And it’s solely because of one scene.

The pool scene:

From not letting Greg into the huddle during the timeout

And then to his best line of all.

“IT WAS A BIG SHOT!”

Just so damn funny. Dr. Larry has some other moments in the movie, but none that are quite as good as this. Unfortunately, James Rebhorn passed away a couple of years ago, so he can’t give us anymore of this type of stuff, but man was it fun while he did it and this role deserves the shit out of standing next to Lawrence in supporting character glory.
