Well that was something else. Was that really the same football team we saw the past two weeks against the Jags and Steelers? It was night and day out there. Joe Flacco set the tone with an absolutely gorgeous deep ball to Mike Wallace down the left sideline, and they never looked back.

The offensive line was terrific all day. The past couple of weeks, Joe has had pressure breathing down his back every time he dropped back to pass, and it was affecting his confidence. They gave him a clean pocket on that first play for him to step into a throw and you could tell it changed the mentality of the entire offense. They took a few more shots down field and were able to move the ball with a balanced attack the rest of the day. Like I said pregame, I thought they needed to score about 20 points to win this game and that was exactly right. The defense was pretty good, although far from perfect. The Raiders were able to move the ball on the ground a bit easier than I’d like, but I expect that to get fixed up when Brandon Williams returns. They did get the fumble return for a TD early to spot themselves a 14-0 lead that was never really in danger.

All in all, I was very worried that the inability of the OL to protect Flacco would be an issue that would haunt them for the rest of this season. This game gives me hope. The Raiders have some talented passrushers who were basically shut down today. If the O can continue to control the football and the clock while putting up a modest amount of points like they did today, this team may still go places. I didn’t think that was possible a week ago. Plus the Steelers looked like pure garbage today and that sandbagging sonofabitch Roethlisberger is admitting he may be washed. This division may be more a lot more wide open than I had thought. Bears at home next week and the Steelers go to Kansas City. We could be in the drivers’ seat come this time next week…
