Wash that dog not once, not twice, but three times my guy. What a way to kick off the season, on the road in Ottawa. Ovi wasn’t going to let a little bit of lackluster defense ruin the season opener during our year, no siree. So all he did was go off for 3 beautiful goals in a 6 minute span in the 3rd period, all assisted by that wonderful wizard Kuznetsov, to insure the Caps a point before heading in to OT. It doesn’t matter what angle he has or how much time he has to release it, Ovi has not slowed down one iota.
His third goal of the game put him in a tie at 24th place with the incomparable Mike Modano for most NHL goals. 561 goals before his 33rd birthday. Not too shabby, not too shabby at all.
And he’s pretty good at the whole hat trick thing too:
Just the best.
As for the rest of the game, after a rather non-exciting OT frame, Ovi put the team on his back once more, notching a shootout goal before Kuzy notched the clincher. Great game by that first line, with Vrana playing an extremely strong game and looking sharp and very NHL ready.
Definitely room for improvement in some places as well, but it was nice to pick up that road victory and start the year 1-0. And yeah, it was nice that this happened too:
So thus begins another NHL season. May your team make you happy, but not as happy as my team makes me. Buy a shirt too.
